In the recent Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker for July to September 2014 by the International Data Corporation (IDC), Xiaomi was dubbed as the world’s third largest smartphone maker, following behind the powerhouses Samsung and Apple.
Xiaomi joined the top five global phone manufacturers for the very first time as it focuses on Asian markets such as China, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, India, and Indonesia, boasting of triple-digit growth that jumped ahead of other industry leaders such as LG and Lenovo.
From a market share of 2.1% in the third quarter of 2013, Xiaomi gives a great showing of a 5.2% share during the same period of the current year. Shipment volumes also doubled from 5.6M to 17.3M.
The team behind the well-received Mi phones takes this milestone as both an achievement and a challenge, promising greater things to come in the following year.
