The OPPO Find Series is Back, and the OPPO Find X will Elevate their Status in the Smartphone Scene

After 4 years, the OPPO Find series is finally back by announcing their true flagship phone, the OPPO Find X in Paris. For those who think this is just another mid-range phone in their popular F series, you guys are so wrong! The Find X is OPPO’s first foray in high-end smartphones, and it’s the best they’ve produced in a long time.

It has a brand new design with the phone covered with 3D glass on its back and front. The Panoramic Arc Screen also makes the phone’s elegance stand out. You won’t see any notches in it, and the spaces especially the bottom were also eliminated. Thanks to OPPO’s COP flexible screen packing technology, the visual screen ratio of the Find X became 93.8% giving users an excellent visual experience.

Aside from its stunning appearance, a feature that got everyone talking is the Stealth 3D Cameras. Since you won’t find a notch for the front camera’s placement (as well as the cameras in the rear) the idea of a pop-up camera is simply mind-blowing! The Find X uses an innovative sliding structure that completely disguises the cameras within the body of the phone. According to OPPO, this up-and-down gives the product movement, a natural and highly functional design. They also mentioned that OPPO’s product team has carried out strict testing on the sliding structure, while it can sense the falling distance and get hidden within the phone, which balance the art design and using durability. The Stealth 3D Cameras doesn’t just hide to make the phone stand out, but it also protects the cameras from scratches whenever the phone is placed on a surface. So cool!

Speaking of cameras, the Stealth 3D Cameras includes a 25 Megapixel front camera and a pair of dual cameras composed of 16 Megapixels and 20 Megapixels. It also boasts of a 3D structured light module with numerous high-tech components. It can project 15,000 facial dots building a precise and complete 3D module of a user’s face, and then compares with the registered face of the owner to unlock. This facial recognition is called the O-Face. Compared to the failure rate of fingerprint scanners which is 1 out of 50,000, the O-Face’s rate is 1 out of 1,000,000 making it a lot more secured.

While I didn’t expect them to highlight the selfie camera which was the main feature of their F series, it surpasses what the mid-range selfie cameras had to offer. Powered by the 3D structured light, the Find X introduces the 3D Smart Selfie Capture. Once your image is recognized by O-Face, AI technology analyzes facial characteristics such as your face’s shapes and features, providing suggestions to make it look more natural and realistic. Its precise facial recognition also enables the Find X to simulate various lighting effects that will result to selfies being more beautiful and artistic.  OPPO has now adopted AI technology for their rear cameras. The AI Scene Recognition supports over 21 scenarios of photography and over 800 scenario combinations.

OPPO Find X

As I’ve already expected, the OPPO Find X will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor and will have Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS 5.1, I was expecting for them to announce at least 2 variants with different storage capacities but what was announced so far is a 256GB Internal Storage with 8GB of RAM.

And the price?

OPPO Find X

999 Euros baby! Converted to Philippine Pesos that’s around P61,696.00. Almost the same price of the iPhone X.

BUT BEFORE YOU GUYS REACT

First, PHONES IN EUROPE ARE BLOODY EXPENSIVE. So yeah, it is expected for OPPO to price the Find X there for 999 Euros. But…

Second, IT’S A DIFFERENT STORY IN ASIA. That’s the same thing Huawei did. In this article written by my good friend John Nieves of Unbox.ph, the Huawei P20 Pro’s price was 899 Euros which is roughly around P57,000. However, Huawei Philippines’s SRP of the P20 Pro was much lower than its Euro price which is P44,900. OPPO may not be Huawei but my hunch is OPPO will have that same pricing strategy in ASIA.

The OPPO Find X’s Philippine price will juggle between P44,900-P54,900. I really think there’s a possibility for OPPO Philippines to sell the Find X at a minimum of P44,900, which is a very competitive price along with other flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Huawei P20 Pro. My FEARLESS FORECAST is it will have an SRP of P49,900.

OPPO Find X

Enough with the talk about the pricing. The OPPO Find X will shake up the higher echelons of the smartphone world. Watch out Huawei and Samsung, a worthy competitor is on its way to get ya ‘all!
