Both players used Akuma in Set 1. Hempamorn made quick work on Laverez with a perfect match at first but the SIBOL athlete was able to bounce back in the next game. It was a see-saw battle with Laverez finding his groove clinching the first set.

Hempamorn won the second set in a breeze, while the third set became a grudge match between the two players until Thailand won 3 games to 2. Laverez switched to Shaheen and started the fourth set with a perfect game. The game was tied at 2-2 but Laverez did not give up. Time expired with Laverez leading, giving the Philippines hope for a Gold medal at 2 sets all.

The fifth set saw Hempamorn breezing to 2 games to none, until Laverez won the third game. Unfortunately for the SIBOL athlete, the player from Thailand was just too consistent, clinching the match and the Gold Medal.
