PLDT, Smart emerge as undisputed fastest fixed and mobile networks in PH

Filipinos enjoy a much better digital experience whether at home or on the go with PLDT andSmart, which recently emerged as the undisputed fastest fixed and mobile networks in the Philippines, based on a string of awards from independent network analytics firms including Ookla, Opensignal, Tutela, and P3.

“We are committed to providing Filipinos with world-class internet, and these awards from world-renowned firms show that we’re on the right track in delivering the best web connections to our customers – whether at home or on the go,” said Oscar A. Reyes, Jr., SVP and Consumer Business Market Development Head.

“PLDT and Smart’s superior fixed and mobile networks enable customers to move at the pace of their increasingly demanding digital lifestyle – from downloading and uploading work files quickly, surfing the web for news and information, streaming videos and music, to playing action-packed games seamlessly,” said Andrew L. Santos, FVP and Consumer Marketing Head for PLDT and Smart.

US-based Ookla, the global leader in internet testing and analysis for fixed and mobile networks, recently cited PLDT and Smart as the country’s fastest fixed and mobile networks, respectively, for 2018.

In Ookla’s Q3-Q4 2018 report, PLDT achieved a Speed Score of 18.57 with top download speeds of 52.28 Mbps and top upload speeds of 55.95 Mbps, based on 27.2 million customer-initiated Speedtest in the Philippines.

On the other hand, in the same study, Smart garnered a Speed Score of 15.57, with average download speeds of 17.86 Mbps and average upload speeds of 8.61 Mbps, based on over 2.1 million user-initiated tests taken with Speedtest on LTE-capable devices nationwide.

UK-based Opensignal, which specialises in providing global insights into mobile network performance, speed, and coverage, also cited Smart for sweeping four out of five categories in its latest report covering November 2018 to January 2019.

Smart pulled ahead of its competition for Best Video Experience, Best Download Speed, Best Upload Speed, and Best Latency Experience, while matching competition in terms of 4G Availability. This means Smartcustomers enjoy faster and better-quality connection even for bandwidth-demanding online activities, such as HD video streaming or video-calling.

In February, Canadian crowd-sourced mobile data company Tutela also recognized Smart as the superior network, particularly in terms of providing consistent “excellent” quality connections.  By that metric, Smartscored twice as high as its competition in the “excellent” category – meaning that Smart users were twice as likely to experience the “excellent” standard which is needed for more demanding mobile applications like streaming high-definition videos.

Just recently, Germany-based P3 communications GmbH, a leader in mobile network benchmarking, also cited Smart for offering the country’s best download speeds. The crowdsource-based study, which included 121 million samples from 104,000 users collected from October to December 2018, said Smart achieved the highest user download speed score among competitors with 98 points, compared to the 68 points garnered by the nearest competitor.
