OPPO Successfully Conducted VoNR Voice and Video calls Relying Solely on 5G!

OPPO in partnership with Ericsson and MediaTek successfully conducted VoNR calls just on 5G connection! This trial presents great leaps in high- quality 5G technology services being more tangible to users.

OPPO’s now one of the first smartphone brands to be able to support VoNR calls under the SA architecture. 5G technology is slowly integrating itself in tech world, OPPO plans to make that possible even for users using the early 5G smartphones.

VONR is a call service relying on 5G alone particularly with SA architecture, a primary architecture of 5G networks. OPPO stands by the statement that VONR delivers lower latency, better sound and picture quality.

In order to test that out, OPPO modified a cellphone running on the Mediatek Dimensity 1000 series chipset and used Ericsson’s 5G Standalone (SA) network in Sweden. After dialing, the phones connected immediately and transitioned smoothly to a high- quality video call!

OPPO primes itself at the forefront and an ideal mobile choice for operators and communication equipment suppliers worldwide. OPPO is making sure to meet the demand for 5G technology! Since 2019, OPPO has been taking the lead on exploring 5G.

From implementing the world’s first video data call on Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) tech to declaring more than 1,000 families of 5G Standard Essential Patents to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to submitting more than 3,000 5G standards-related documents to 3GPP, OPPO’s a true leader.

OPPO’s still not stopping there! OPPO founder and CEO Tony Chen confirmed that in the next three years, OPPO will be spending 50 billion yuan over R&D to support innovation in 5G, artificial intelligence, VR, big data and other areas, as well as developing key hardware technology and software development capabilities.
