New Asha, Lumia Phones and Tablet Announced at Nokia World 2013

The presentation at Nokia World 2013 in Abu Dhabi has ended and it looks like Nokia is set to strike back with its new products.

Stephen Elop, Nokia’s Executive Vice President of Devices and Services ran the show along with his team in introducing the new phone models of the Asha and Lumia series, as well as their first Lumia Windows 8 tablet. And here they are:

The Nokia Asha 500 has a 2.8-inch screen and a 2 Megapixel camera and will be available in single SIM and Dual-SIM editions. Price will be around US$69.00.

The Asha 502 has a slightly bigger screen at 3-inches,  5 Megapixel camera with LED flash and Dual-SIM. Price is estimated to be US$89.00.

The 3rd model in the Asha series is the Asha 503 and a few more nice features were added like 3.5G connectivity, a 3-inch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 2, 5MP camera with LED flash, and will be available in Single or Dual-SIM variants. The price they released for this model is US$99.00.

On to the Lumia line of smartphones, Nokia announced 2 new models that covers the Phablet country – the Lumia 1320 and 1520. The Lumia 1320 features many high-end Lumia innovations on a large 6-inch 720p display and extends the Nokia Camera app to another price range. With the large display, Nokia and Microsoft added a 3rd column in the Live Tiles display to maximize the screen real estate. The Lumia 1320 comes with  Nokia Music for free streaming of ad-free music and HERE maps and location services. It will be priced at US$339.00 and will start shipping on the 1st quarter of 2014.

Just like the Lumia 1320, the Lumia 1520 also sports a 6-inch screen with 1080p full HD display. The Lumia 1520 is also packed with a 20MP PureView camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), enabling sharp images even in the dark as well as oversampling and zooming technology similar to the Lumia 1020.


Its body is made of recycled polycarbonate, making the Lumia 1520 an environmental friendly smartphone. The Nokia Lumia 1520 will be available in yellow, white, black and glossy red and is expected to have a price of US$ 479.00. Shipping will start in Q4 2013.

Nokia’s first tablet also uses the Lumia branding and named it the Lumia 2520. Screen size is 10.1-inch HD, built-in LTE connectivity, 6.7 Megapixels with Carl Zeiss optics (a first in a tablet), and Windows 8.1 RT as its choice of operating system. A separate accessory, the Nokia Power Keyboard can be paired with the Lumia 2520 which also doubles as a protective wraparound cover. It’s a fully functional keypad with gesture trackpad that will give the user the same experience as typing on a laptop and can give the Lumia 2520 extra power up to 5 extra hours of battery life.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 will be available in red and white with glossy finish as well as cyan and black with matte finish in the first quarter of 2014, and will have a estimated price tag of US$ 499.00.

Aside from these hardware announcements, the popular messaging app WhatsApp is now included in the new Asha phone models, and Nokia announced that Instagram will finally be released to the Windows Phone platform in the coming weeks.
