MSI has affirmed support for the existing AMD 400 Series motherboards to support the soon to be released AMD Ryzen 5000 series of processors by early next year. After AMD’s announcement last October 8th of the new Zen3 architecture; board partners have begun releasing BIOS upgrades to support AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs. MSI has released the latest AGESA COMBO PI V2 188.8.131.52 update for all of their X570, B550 and A520 motherboards. This update will further improve PCIe 4.0 performance further with these new processors.
MSI Updates 400 Series Motherboards
Previously, there was clamor with regards to upgrades for 400 series motherboard owners. AMD listened in and have provided a solution for those using 400 series motherboards to have an opportunity to upgrade their BIOS. A BIOS update for AMD 400 series motherboards will be out by January 2021. For MSI’s part, they have announced that ALL of their AMD 400 series motherboards will have Ryzen 5000 support. This includes X470 and B450 motherboards; MAX or non-MAX products will have BIOS updates that allow Ryzen 5000 to run on these boards. A detailed schedule for BIOS release will be announced after MSI receives the BIOS code from AMD. Further and latest information can be pulled from MSI.com.
As for the 300 series motherboards however are not covered by the update as per AMD. If ever there is an update for these boards; a follow up post will be published.
