LG G5 Introduced at Mobile World Congress

I saw the images of the LG G5 last night while in discussion with my fellow tech bloggers. What we saw first was the back of the G5, and we all cringed at it. One blogger was like “WTF? They came up with the G3, G4 and the V10 and now this?!” I thought it’s a smartphone that will be released by Cherry Mobile. It’s a far cry from the stylish design of the G4.

I guess we focused too much on the “ugly” exterior of the LG G5 and failed to see its groundbreaking features. After checking out the details of the G5, I have to admit that LG is not going to release a boring upgrade to their flagship smartphone this year.

LG G5

The LG G5 says goodbye to plastic and hello to metal. It now has a metal aluminium unibody with a, get this: a removable battery. How’s that possible? I’ll explain that in a bit. The G5’s 5.3-inch screen display uses 3D Arc Glass which looks pretty and goes well with the metallic body.

Powering the G5 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 32GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM. The camera is a 16 Megapixel shooter with Laser Auto-Focus and OIS. What’s nice about this camera is its 135-degree wide-angle lens that gives an option for a standard or a wide-angle photo. This should be great for landscape or group photos.

The big news with the LG G5 is its modular design. In fact, the newest flagship is the Korean brand’s first modular type smartphone. The bottom part of the G5 is removable, and when it’s pulled it will reveal the battery that can be easily replaced. LG says that a user can swap the batteries of the G5 within seconds! You can also insert other peripherals compatible with the LG G5 called “Friends.” These include the LG Cam Plus and the LG Hi-Fi Plus. It’s quite similar to the CF (Compact Flash) Card accessories for Pocket PCs or Express Card accessories for Windows laptops.

Now I’ve gotten over the back design of the LG G5. It looks quite okay now for me and even fellow Tech Blogger Carlo Ople of Unbox.ph was all praises with both the design and performance of the G5. My question is, will there be more modular devices that will be made available in the near future for the G5? I hope they will.
