JDM NAMBAWAN!

JDM What does it mean? Car enthusiasts always hear this at car meets or see this on car magazines. Why is it popular here in the Philippines? Let’s see what does the JDM abbreviation means first. JDM means Japan Domestic Market. It refers to cars and parts built and sold “SPECIFICALLY” for the Japanese market.

SO WHAT DOES IT MEAN HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES? The JDM craze started here in the Philippines around middle of the year 2000. The fever started with local Japanese car brands being modified with parts and accessories directly from Japan, that are not available here in our country. Until now the modification trend is still present and that is why we do have more growing surplus auto supplies.

JDM MODIFICATIONS Now when does a car become a JDM car? Even if its not really a Right-Hand-Drive(RHD) car. There are two kinds of modification build:

HARD CORE SPECS: Hard core JDM build consist of original car parts and accessories that are shipped from Japan and would cost much because of the shipping rate and rareness. Example of OEM rare parts, from brown glass, original mag wheels, touring or sport bumpers, spoilers, interior, speakers, center console, cup holders, emblems, radiator cap, engine, and screws! Yes! You read it right! SCREWS! Enthusiasts would really hunt down parts that are originally designed for the Japanese market.

BUDGET MEAL SPECS: When we say budget meal, It doesn’t really mean “cheap” parts. You are just conscious about your hard earned money. For example: Dead match copy mag wheels or we may say “pirated” mag wheels that are affordable. We do not certainly patronize the purchase of pirated products. But do not worry! You can still find low-priced original parts from your friendly local surplus shops that is near your place or on the Facebook Marketplace. Therefore, even if you don’t splurge too much you can still get that JDM feeling theme on your car. Just don’t over do it. Some car owners tend to put unnecessary accessories on their automobiles. As we car owners say “Keep It Clean”
