The folks from Sun Cellular invited us last night to watch the National Finals of the 1st Sun Broadband Quest held at the Music Museum. The inter-school band competition was launched in December 2012, and out of 63 successful entries online (145 bands tried their luck), 10 bands from all over the country competed for the top prize of Php 150,000.00 and a recording contract with MCA Music, Inc.
We were told that Sun Broadband held a workshop for the members of these 10 bands to hone their voice and skills in instruments. The mentors of the workshop were Ebe Dancel (formerly of Sugar Free), Francis Reyes (The Dawn), Nyoy Volante, Mally Paraguya, Eunice Jorge and Mike Dizon.
The top 10 bands who performed were Baby Boomers of Davao, Bad Hair Day of FEU, Crowd 7 also from Davao, Dagsin of St. Scholastica’s College, Iktus of Christian International School, J-Squad of Foundation University in Dumaguete, Jack N Poy of De La Salle University, Low Grad Repeat, Mariae of University of the Philippines, and Soulpage also from UP.
Here are some photos I’ve taken last night:

The competition was tight and most of them really performed well. But the judges have to pick winners, and they are:
Congratulations to Iktus for winning the Sun Broadband Quest competition! We look forward to your album with MCA and watch your gigs. Congratulations also to the rest of the bands who gave their best performances last night. And thank you Sun Broadband for inviting us to watch these amazing bands!
