Huawei Nova 7 5G, Nova 7 SE 5G and Nova 7 Pro 5G Launched — 5G Support, 64MP cameras, Kirin 985 chipset

Huawei has officially unveiled the Huawei Nova 7 5G, Nova 7 SE 5G and Nova 7 Pro 5G successor to the Nova 6 series! The series debuted in China with the latest Kirin 985 chipset bringing 5G as well as 64MP sensors across all three smartphones.

These Huawei midrange smartphones aren’t the first to be launched with 5G connectivity. However, the spec combination these midrange smartphones are decked in begs for a second look. Huawei’s Nova 7 5G, 7 SE 5G and 7 Pro 5G aren’t that different in price and to some degree, specs as well.

The catalog shows three variants that individually has its own charm but essentially is not too far from each other. One of the most notable key differences is the Kirin 985 chipset which is only present in the Nova 7 5G and Nova 7 Pro 5G. The Nova 7 SE is the budget smartphone in the trio, however the price difference between the 256GB Nova 7 SE 5G and the 128GB Nova 7 5G is only approximately PHP 1,500 (CNY 200).

Even so, the price jump from the Nova 7 5G to the Nova 7 Pro 5G is still larger than the Nova 7 SE 5G to the Nova 7 5G. Since the most expensive in the bunch, the Nova 7 Pro 5G is obviously equipped with the best offered for this series. It’s enhancements lean largely onto the camera specs.

Huawei Nova 7 5G

The Nova 7 Pro 5G starts with a stunning curved 6.57-inch OLED FHD+ resolution display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It has minimal bezels and unlike other Nova smartphones, it features a pill-sized dual front camera module cut-out on the side. Aside from that, the Nova 7 Pro 5G is the only Nova smartphone with 70-degree curved edges. The screen is also built in with a fingertip sensor.

The dual cameras upfront boast 32MP (f/2.0) and 8MP (f/2.2) ultra- wide snappers alongside each other. It has a quad camera at the back, sporting a 64MP main shooter like the others. The quad camera is composed of the 64MP (f/1.8) main sensor, 8MP (f/2.4) ultra-wide lens, 8MP (f/3.4) periscope-styled lens with OIS, and a 2MP (f/2.4) macro. Its 8MP lens can zoom up to 5X optical, 10X hybrid, and also features the Huawei P40’s 50X digital zoom.

It’s fueled by the latest flagship Kirin 985 bound to let it run smoothly. It’s still newly fresh off manufacturing so we’ll see how it compares with other flagship chipsets later into the year. The Nova 7 Pro offers 8GB of ram to go with that, available with 128GB and 256GB storage variants. It runs on Huawei’s EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10.

It also goes strong with battery at 4,000 mAh and supports 40W SuperCharge fast charging. Huawei claims you can get a 75% charge from zero in 30 minutes. Awesome for a midrange.

It comes in the colors black, green, purple, red, and silver. Available for now only in pre-order in China in these prices: 8GB/128GB variant for approximate PHP 26,400 (¥3,699) and 8GB/256GB variant for PHP 30,000 (¥4,099).

The Nova 7 5G comes close to the Pro sans the extra front camera, and less powerful rear camera system without the Huawei P40’S hybrid zoom. The Nova 7 5G features a smaller 6.53-inch OLED FHD+ resolution curved display. Also with a built-in fingertip sensor. Like the Nova 7 Pro 5G, it’s fueled by the Kirin 985 and is on EMUI 10.1.

The sensors of its rear camera are the same except for the 8MP telephoto periscope. It supports just up to 3X optical zoom, 5X hybrid zoom, and 20X digital zoom. It’s front camera is at 32MP (f/2.0) as well.

Battery and fast charging are identical at 4,000 mAh and 40W fast charging. It’s also available in two storage variants retailing at approximately PHP 22,000 (¥2,999) for the 8GB/128GB and PHP 25,000 (¥3,399) for the 8GB/256GB.

The Nova 7 SE 5G pales in comparison against the two in display, cameras, and processor. It features a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD display without a built-in fingerprint sensor. Huawei opted for a side sensor instead for this unit. It runs on the Kirin 820 5G, slightly weaker but it offers 5G all the same.

As for cameras, the Nova 7 SE 5G packs a quad camera with a 64MP (f/1.8) lens as a main. It goes side to side with an 8MP (f/2.4) ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth camera. Upfront it holds a decent 16MP (f/2.0) camera.

Battery and fast charging is available all the same for the whole Nova 7 series. It has 4,000 mAh battery with 40W fast charging support. Interestingly, unlike the two other models, the Nova 7 SE 5G has a 3.5mm headphone jack! If you’re missing headphone jacks, the Nova 7 SE 5G might have an edge against the other two.

It’s also offered for two variants. You can get the Nova 7 SE 8GB/128GB for approximately PHP 17,500 (¥2,399) and the 8GB/256GB variant for PHP 20,038 (¥2,799).

All in all, the Huawei Nova 7 is a solid series. It offers both specs and price compatibility with so many options to choose from. Availability is still unclear for PH but we’ll get back to you as soon as we know.
