Huawei MatePad Pro – The iPad Pro Killer

The entry of the iPad Pro years ago redefined the use of a tablet as a laptop replacement. Unlike other tablets, the iPad Pro has the power to edit videos on the fly and the upgrade to the iPadOS added more PC-like features such as desktop mode, desktop browsing, split-view windows on the same app and even accepts an external drive. So far, there is no other tablet in the market that can come close to the iPad Pro, but with the announcement of the Huawei MatePad Pro, will this be a potential iPad Pro killer?

Huawei MatePad Pro

The Huawei MatePad Pro has a large display of 10.8-inches IPS display with a resolution of 2560×1600. Its ultra-narrow bezels makes the MatePad Pro achieve the highest tablet screen-to-body ratio at 90 percent. The tablet’s sleek design makes it very portable and can be easily slipped inside a bag.

Powering the MatePad pro is the 7nm Kirin 990 flagship chipset, the same chipset that powers the Huawei Mate 30 series. Kirin 990 is very much capable to handle all the apps installed whether it’s for productivity or entertainment. Storage is 128GB expandable with a NanoMemory card up to 256GB and 6GB of memory. It has a Type-C USB port for charging but I reckon it will also support OTG.

Running EMUI10, the MatePad Pro has a feature we consider as an advantage over the iPad Pro. The Huawei Share Multi-Screen Collaboration lets users with a compatible Huawei phone connect to the MatePad Pro wirelessly. The interface of the phone would appear on the MatePad where you can make video calls, file transfers and work on both devices without having to hold two devices.

It also has a PC Mode that can give you the usual desktop experience. Attach the Huawei Smart Magnetic Keyboard and the MatePad Pro becomes an instant laptop. Laptops however, don’t have pen inputs. You cannot jot down or sketch ideas that you may forget. The Huawei M-Pencil solves that. Tapping the screen with the M-Pencil instantly wakes up the MatePad Pro and opens the Notepad app. It supports handwriting recognition and has the ability to convert them into text. The M-Pencil can be attached on top of the tablet like a magnet and it will be charged automatically.

The Huawei AppGallery will fulfill your needs to make the MatePad pro work for you. The AppGallery is preloaded with lots of top and essential apps that is great for your entertainment, productivity and learning needs. For productivity, the Microsoft office is available on Huawei AppGallery. You can search “Office” on the browser tab, then it will show results like WPS Office and Microsoft Office. The WPS office is an office similar to Microsoft and it is free. Microsoft office works normally as well even if you sign in with your own Office 360 account. If you are seeking for entertainment you can also find Game of Thrones, Viu, ClickTheCity and more. Other apps like Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, WhatsApp, Twitter and Snapchat works well on the Matepad Pro. There is also a faster way to get these apps and it is via Huawei Phone Clone.
