Starting this week, I will be featuring apps I found either interesting or useful in the Huawei AppGallery. My aim is to help educate Huawei phones and tablet users enjoy and maximize their devices. Today, I will be discussing two GPS navigation apps I downloaded from the AppGallery, Karta GPS and HERE WeGo Maps.
When I got my Huawei P40 Pro last month, one of the first apps I looked for was for GPS navigation. I know I can use the mobile version of Google Maps with my phone’s browser, but I’d like to check the Huawei AppGallery if they have something equivalent to offer. I found Karta GPS and HERE WeGo Maps and I was able to use them when I picked up my Huawei MatePad Pro from our dealer’s office weeks ago.
This is the first navigation app I downloaded. It was the first app to appear in the search results of the AppGallery so I figured I check it out. It lists the most common places in each area and even has some 3D layouts of the buildings. Navigation is so far accurate and even has a route simulation so you can have a preview of your travel.
However, I encountered some quirks with the app. While I mentioned the locations are updated in the map, searching for the destination can be a pain. For example, I tried to search for SMART Tower in Ayala Avenue as a destination, Karta would show different results. To be able to get to that exact destination, you’ll need to add a contact with the specific address. Once added, Karta would be able to recognize the address and then you can make that as your destination.
HERE WEGO MAPS
Despite of its quirks, I was already settled with Karta GPS until HERE WeGo Maps appeared in the AppGallery. I am familiar with HERE Maps and have used them before when I reviewed the Nokia Lumia phones a decade ago, so they’re pretty much already established. True enough, the maps are up-to-date and looked a lot better then Google Maps. The buildings are not only in 3D, they look exactly like the actual buildings. This will make it even easier for users to find the location of their destination. Search results for locations are reliable and it also provides alternative routes.
HERE WeGo also has maps in Satellite, Transit and Traffic. I haven’t really tried the traffic maps since we haven’t had any during lockdown. Also, just like Google Maps, HERE WeGo offers routes and travel times for different types of transportation. And if you need to save on mobile data expenses, you can use the app offline.
I hope one of these GPS Navigation apps will be able to help you with your new Huawei smartphone powered by the Huawei AppGallery. Keep it locked in with our blog for more AppGallery Finds next week.
