Expanded Offers of Sun and Smart puts PLDT at the Forefront of the Mobile Postpaid Market

Smart and Sun, two wireless groups under PLDT, has once again maintained their competitive lead with approximately 387,000 subscribers in 2014, or approximately 55% of the total Philippine market.

This is due to several new offerings from both telcos, including Smart’s release of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the Sony Xperia Z1 and Z2, and the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.  These handsets came with bang-for-your-buck plans that start at Php999 which gave bigger data volume allowances and free music streaming via Deezer for two years.

On the other hand, Sun has continued to offer economical postpaid plans that included handsets and wearable devices starting at the low monthly rate of Php499. These plans had unlimited Sun calls and texts, texts to other networks, mobile surfing, and unlimited music streaming via Spinnr. Sun also launched “Sun Shop on Wheels” with the goal of reaching provincial areas and keeping them connected through mobile devices.

Both Smart and Sun have also started offering additional, digital content to their subscribers, such as music via Spinnr, digital downloads of Summit Publishing titles via e-bookstore, Buqo; video streaming via Viewstream and Blink; and online gaming e-Pins via GameX, among others.

The telcos promise to continue its top-notch service by offering new products and services in 2015.
