Asus recently announced three (3) new ZenFones during the ZenFestival held here in Manila. Few days before that event, Asus Philippines sent me a review unit of the new Asus ZenFone Selfie. Even though I don’t take selfies that much, it still made me excited that I decided to use it right away.
I thought of doing another camera comparison post similar to the ZenFone 2 and the iPhone 6. Since the main feature of the ZenFone Selfie is its 13 Megapixel Camera at the front, I’m going to include the front camera image comparisons as well. This should be really interesting!
Before we continue, here are the camera specs of the Asus ZenFone Selfie and the iPhone 6:
Asus ZenFone Selfie
|Main Camera||13 Megapixels||8 Megapixels|
|Aperture||F 2.0||F 2.2|
|Front Camera||13 Megapixels||1.2 Megapixels|
Asus ZenFone Selfie vs iPhone 6 – Let the Camera Shootout Begin!
Took these photos around 4:30pm on a Friday afternoon. The image taken with my iPhone 6 was brighter and more accurate compared to the ZenFone Selfie. The iPhone wins this round.
SCOREBOARD: Asus ZenFone Selfie – 0, iPhone 6 – 1
After carefully checking these two images taken by the Asus ZenFone Selfie and the iPhone 6, we can therefore conclude that the Cebu Lechon with 2 pieces of Puso are absolutely delicious! Okay, I’m kidding. Both images show how appetizing the lechon is. Both smartphones earned points for this round. Boy, I’m really hungry now!
SCOREBOARD: Asus ZenFone Selfie – 1, iPhone 6 – 2
The ZenFone Selfie did a better job in this area. With HDR turned on, the image became brighter and livelier. We can even see the buildings in the background. The Zenfone finally wins a round, and we’re tied at 2 all.
SCOREBOARD: Asus ZenFone Selfie – 2, iPhone 6 – 2
For this department, I requested help from fellow tech blogger and good friend Mark Macanas of Techpinas.com whom I consider as the “Selfie Expert.” Thanks to the beautification feature of the ZenFone Selfie, Mark’s face looked younger and stress-free. After taking several selfies with the iPhone 6 and the ZenFone Selfie, he seems to be really impressed by the latter’s camera’s capabilities as I heard him making positive comments about it.
The ZenFone Selfie clinched the point, giving it a 1-point lead over the iPhone.
SCOREBOARD: Asus ZenFone Selfie – 3, iPhone 6 – 2
As you can see, the ZenFone Selfie’s camera has the ability to take a wider picture using the front camera. This is possible thanks to the Selfie Panorama option. This feature is very useful for group shots. You can’t possibly do this with an iPhone unless they enable the Panorama option for the front camera.
SCOREBOARD: Asus ZenFone Selfie – 4, iPhone 6 – 2
It’s a close contest again between the ZenFone and the iPhone, but the ZenFone Selfies’ Feature Packed Front Camera saved the day for them. There are a lot of things to explore with the camera, and we will tackle this more in our full review coming soon.
Regarding the main camera, it’s still a really close call with the iPhone, but then again, as long as you’re familiar with the functions of the ZenFone Selfie’s camera settings, certainly you will get a lot of better pictures with it and leave your DSLR camera at home.
Watch out for the full review coming next week!
