ASUS New TUF Gaming Power Supplies

ASUS has just announced the TUF Gaming Power Supplies to the public. These consist of the following Power Supply Units: 550W, 650W and 750W. This brings the TUF branding of PC components one step closer to having a complete selection of parts for a complete TUF Gaming PC build.

Durability

While there are other power supplies that are licensed to have TUF branding, they aren’t exactly made by ASUS. To ensure class leading durability, ASUS starts by using robust capacitors and chokes that are certified to pass military-grade specifications. The tight tolerances and margins of these components allow for the PSUs to provide reliable power even when deployed in challenging environments. As a precautionary measure, the PCB has an additional protective conformal coating that guards against short circuits.

The power supply comes with a Dual Ball Bearing fan. This keep the components cool and have a lifespan double to that of the regular sleeve-bearing design.

Engineering

The TUF Gaming Power Supplies have its components operate beneath an Axial-tech fan, similar to the ones used in top-end ROG GPUs. The design features a small fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward (or upward) air pressure. TUF Gaming Series PSUs scale the design to up to 135mm to cool the components while running at low rpm.

The PSUs come with 0dB technology, which turns the fan off when the PSUs’ TDP is below 30%. This lets gamers enjoy relative silence while gaming. Anything above 30% TDP, the fan will start spinning.

The military grade components used in TUF Gaming Power Supplies ensure efficient and reliable operation. It is worthy of an 80 PLUS Bronze certification. The efficiency also leads to low temperatures within the PSU, and facilitates an even quieter acoustic profile for the 135mm Axial-tech Fan.

Experience

Many of the competing PSU manufacturers in this category do not come with long warranty terms. But ASUS TUF Gaming’s durable design allow for ASUS to offer a six year warranty on all models. In addition, TUF Gaming PSUs come with black cable sleeving for a clean, tactical look right out of the box.
