ASUS B550 Motherboard Model Summary

ROG Strix B550-E Gaming

ASUS B550 Motherboard

The ROG Strix B550-E Gaming motherboard is currently the top-end model in the B550 lineup from ASUS. It has a 14+2 power stage VRM that is capable in providing stable performance when overclocking. There are three PCIE x16 slots for graphics. Two of these are PCIE Gen4, supports 2-way SLI (on 8x mode), and have SafeSlot each to reduce sagging. The third PCIE slot allows for 3-way Crossfire support. For cooling it has six Fan Headers, and a dedicated AIO and pump headers.

For onboard storage, network and audio, Dual M.2 slots have both heatsinks to avoid throttling under load, and will allow up to 110mm long SSDs. The Strix B550-E Gaming includes 2.5Gbps LAN, WiFi6 and Bluetooth 5.1. For USB, it has three USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectors (one Type C and two Type A); along with several USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports in the I/O. Audio is supplied by Supreme FX S1220A audio chip with a USB Type C port. Aura Sync lighting is supplied by two RGB headers and two ARGB headers. To make BIOS updates easy, BIOS Flashback feature is included, no longer requiring a CPU to be plugged while updating.

ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (WiFi)

ASUS B550 Motherboard

The ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (WiFi) motherboard is the lower tier brethren in the Strix series. It is similar to the B550-E Gaming model, except for the VRM having a 12+2 power stage design. This variant Strix motherboard has 2 PCIE x16 slots with only one PCIE Gen4, and that is the only slot with SafeSlot. It does not support SLI, but will have 2-way Crossfire support. Unlike the previous B450-F Gaming model, the B550-F Gaming will now include WiFi6 and Bluetooth 5.1 onboard. Audio is also handled by a Supreme FX S1220A audio chip. USB connectors are fewer, and this is without the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C connector. And Aura Sync lighting has also one less ARGB header.

ROG Strix B550I

ASUS B550 Motherboard

The ROG Strix B550-I Gaming is designed for those looking for a very compact PC, but still able to perform incredibly well. While it is an ITX sized motherboard, it has enough features to compensate. While it only has two DIMM slots for DDR4 memory; RAM can be overclocked to 5100MHz thanks to a shorter trace length from the CPU to the memory slots. The 8+2 power stage VRM is balanced for 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs and will provide enough power and kept cool with active cooling by way of ASUS’s ProCool II Design. USB ports are few, but have better variety; including a front panel Type-C connector. As for network connectivity, it carries a 2.5Gbps LAN, Wifi6 and Bluetooth 5.1. Since the board is compact, the rear I/O has illumination for its audio 3.5mm ports to allow easier identification.

TUF Gaming B550M-Plus (WiFi)

ASUS B550 Motherboard

With an 8+2 power stage with wide heatsinks for cooling, built-in WiFi 6 (and Bluetooth 5.1), and mATX form factor; the TUF Gaming B550M-Plus (WiFi) motherboard has it, at a friendly price. Aside from the given, this motherboard still packs two PCIE x16 slots, with one slot having PCIE Gen4 and Safeslot support. The other having PCIE Gen3 speed and can support 2-way Crossfire at x8 speed. There are  two M.2 slots. One slot with PCIE Gen4 speed but only up to 80mm SSD can be installed; and without a heatsink however. And another having,  but running at PCIE Gen3. Audio is powered by Realtek S1200A, with DTS Custom for gaming headsets. And compared to the usual mATX motherboards, this has 4 DIMM slots so a maximum of 128GB DDR4 can be installed.

Prime B550M-A (WiFi)

ASUS B550 Motherboard

The Prime series B550 motherboards offer entry level builders a way to reduce overall price for their builds as well as save on space. This particular model of the Prime B550M-A is identical to the ATX version while having an mATX form factor. VRMs are cooled by a decently sized heatsink to provide ample cooling. A nice bonus for this model is that WiFi and Bluetooth is included, along with 4 DIMM slots which, again; are not too common for it to appear on mATX motherboards. This model in particular forgoes the Gigabit Ethernet connection in favor of having WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 built in. Also, RGB lighting is supported for this motherboard care of 1 ARGB header and 2 RGB headers for AURA Sync.

Prime B550M-K

ASUS B550 Motherboard

The Prim B550M-K motherboard is all of the Prime B550M-A is, but completely stripped down to its bare necessities. Gone are the RGB headers, heatsinks for the VRM, and WiFi; however it retains the important parts: PCIE Gen4 for its PCIE x16 slot, and M.2 slot. Another feature found on the B550M-A that this model keeps is the four DIMM slots, making it competitive for future memory expansion.
