ASRock B550 Motherboard SRP Released

ASRock Philippines has released their pricing on their B550 Motherboards that are now out in the market. ASRock B550 Motherboard SRP list is composed of several B550 models that are available now. Similar to the other SRP announcement, I’ll be including a summary of motherboards included for release here.

ASRock B550 Motherboard Summary

B550 Steel Legend

ASRock B550 Motherboard

The ASRock B550 Steel Legend is one of the upper tier motherboard models from ASRock. This particular motherboard model is essentially the same spec as the Phantom Gaming B550 Velocita,  but with a few features not included. As it is a Steel Legend branded motherboard; it does not have software for Phantom Gaming motherboards (and Power/Reset buttons) and heat pipe design for its VRM heatsink. The most glaring difference is that the second PCIE x16 slot is not reinforced with a steel support. Nevertheless, the board is itself is a copy of the Velocita; packaged more for mainstream users in mind, but boasting performance that is on par with the Velocita. Its heatsink design is more aligned with blue and green highlights on brushed metal base color.

Power

Feature wise, the B550 Steel Legend comes with a 14 phase power design with 60A power choke and 50A Dr.MOS, making it available for overclocking if need be. Its primary PCIE x16 slot is type Gen4, while the second slot is Gen3 running x4. These x16 slots support Crossfire as well. For Storage, it has two M.2 slots with heatsinks with the primary slot running on PCIE Gen4. Six SATA3 6Gbps are found on the side of the board.

Connections, Audio and Networking

A plethora of connectors are found strategically placed around the motherboard for CPU Fan, Water pump, case fans (5), USB 2.0 headers (2), USB3.2 Gen1 header, and USB 3.2 Gen2 header. ASRock fully supports its “Polychrome Sync” lighting system by supplying the motherboard with 2 RGB and 2 ARGB connectors, also in strategic locations of the motherboard. Rounding out the rest of the IO shield, it has HDMI Port, Display Port, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A and Type C ports, 2 USB 3.1 and 4 USB 2.0 ports. Audio is powered by a Realtek ALC1220 Audio Codec with Nahimic Audio. For LAN, it uses a 2.5Gbps Ethernet powered by a Dragon RTL8125BG Ethernet card.

Similar to the B550 Velocita, the B550 Steel Legend lacks WiFi connectivity. However the flexible rear IO shield has cut-outs for attaching the wifi/bluetooth antenna and will connect via a M.2 key slot.

B550M Steel Legend

ASRock B550 Motherboard

The B550M Steel Legend is a mATX motherboard designed for builders looking to build a slightly more compact machine than the B550 Steel Legend. It has a 10 phase power design, with DR.MOS. Other features from the bigger B550 Steel Legend are found in the B550M Steel Legend, but configured for a smaller package.

Connections

PCIE x16 slots with a combination of x16 Gen4 and x4 Gen3. M.2 Slots with Gen4 support plus M.2 Key slot for WiFi, and a Gen3 slot. It still has six SATA3 6.0Gbps ports making it friendly for those looking for multiple drives to install. There are two USB 2.0 headers and USB 3.2 Gen1 headers each, allowing for more USB ports for the front of the case. This is on top of the four USB 3.2 Gen1, two USB 2.0, USB 3.2 Gen2 Type A and Type C ports in the rear.

Networking and Lighting

LAN is provided by a 2.5Gbps powered by Dragon and it does not include WiFi (sold separately).  One difference the B550M Steel Legend has is its Clear CMOS button at the rear IO shield, which is helpful when botched overclock attempts happen. “Polychrome Sync” lighting is supported with again, two pairs of RGB and aRGB connectors on the top and bottom of the motherboard.

B550 Pro4

ASRock B550 Motherboard

The B550 Pro4 is an entry level tier for ASRock that provides an 8 power phase design, allowing sufficient power to run entry to mid range AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors reliably. It has features generally found on the upper tier models from ASRock, like USB 3.2 Gen2 headers, larger heatsinks for the chipset. Instead of an LED Postcode display, it uses several LED lights to indicate post status. Video output of this motherboard uses a D-Sub and HDMI port.

B550M Pro4

ASRock B550 Motherboard

The B550M Pro4 has the same features of the B550 Pro4, having the same 8 power phase design, but having a mATX form factor. One surprising feature with this model is that it has two more USB ports in the rear IO than the B550 Pro4. And for video output, it has included a VGA port along with the D-Sub and HDMI port. It does lose a 4-pin power connector for the CPU.

B550M ITX/ac

ASRock B550 Motherboard

The B550M ITX/ac is the smallest of the B550 motherboards of the bunch. It, like the Pro4 models come with an 8 phase power design, with 60A chokes. It has a single PCIE x16 Gen4 slot for graphics and also one M.2 Gen4 slot. The M.2 slot is cooled by a sizeable heatsink, which likely also cools the B550 chipset. For LAN, it has a 1Gbps ethernet card powered by Realtek RTL8111H. Its WiFi5/Bluetooth 4.2 is supplied by an Intel Wireless AC 8265. As the board is an ITX, USB ports are limited to only two USB 2.0, three USB 3.2 Gen1 TypeA, and one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type C. Instead of having a D-Sub port for video, it has a Display Port for CPUs running onboard graphics (for future Ryzen processors with built in graphics).

Editor’s Note: The B550M-ITX/ac is a really compelling motherboard for building a “XBox Series X Clone”, and pairing it with a Ryzen 5 3600 (or 3600X) and Radeon 5600XT inside an NZXT H1.
