The Galaxy Strikes Back! Samsung Galaxy S6 & Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE Announced at MWC

With all the negative news surrounding Samsung after the so-called failure of the Samsung Galaxy S5 to reach its high sales targets, I’m rooting for Samsung to get back to its proper shape. Earlier today, after months of rumors and image leaks, Samsung released the successor of the Samsung Galaxy S5. Not just one, but two Galaxy S5 successors!

Ladies and gentlemen, let us welcome the entry of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE!

Samsung Galaxy S6 01

First, let’s talk about the appearance. Galaxy S users have been complaining about Samsung using cheap materials for their flagship smartphones since the launch of the first device back in 2010. Samsung said it’s been listening to its customers and it admitted that they were only focused on the phone’s performance.

This time, they’re focusing on both the Performance and Design, and true enough, the design of the Galaxy S6 is much, much better than the S5. The body is made of metal and the back is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 – its shiny surface can confuse people about the color of the smartphone. Because of the redesign, you can’t dip the Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge into a basin of water like the S5, but I was told it’s somehow water resistant.

Under the hood of both devices is an Exymos Octa-Core processor which promises to be 35% more energy efficient and they changed the RAM to DDR4 which can boost up its memory up to 80%. Both devices support wireless charging and aside from that, the good news is you can simply charge the device for 10 minutes and it will instantly give you 4 hours worth of battery life! If you want to choose the amount of storage on your new Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models will be made available. Unfortunately, these devices are non-expandable.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are now energy efficient.

Samsung retained the 16 Megapixel camera with OIS but it is now equipped with a brighter  1.9 lens, meaning it can take better pictures in low light conditions. The camera can be launched in 0.7 seconds for those moments that requires some “Ninja photoskills.” The front camera also has 5 Megapixels but also with the same 1.9 lens. Selfies in dark areas can now be possible with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will arrive in the Philippines in late April and in a surprise move by Samsung Philippines, it will carry the Dual-SIM versions of both devices. It will be available in 3 colors: Gold Platinum, White Pearl, and Black Sapphire.
