Smart BRO Turbo Plans Aims to Jive with Your Internet Lifestyle

Unlimited Data Plans were offered in 2010 to encourage subscribers to use their 3G connection. I’ve been wanting to have an unlimited data plan with Smart when they started offering 3G connectivity in 2006, and finally got the chance when I subscribed to a special HTC Magic Plan 1800 with Unlimited Data. I’ve enjoyed being online 24/7 and influenced other people, mostly my friends to do the same. When LTE became available to the public, I moved to an Unlimited LTE Data Plan for my Smart iPhone 5 and 5s where I experienced ultra-fast download speeds which I also used as my backup internet connection for work.

Alas, they ceased to offer unlimited data plans last December. I’m like, “I Need Unlimited Data! I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT AN UNLIMITED DATA PLAN! I’M GONNA DIE!!!” Sorry, I’m just being O.A.

Do I, or should I say, do WE really need an Unlimited Data Plan? Maybe, but let’s step back and analyse our actual usage before making a conclusion. Here’s mine:

Fact #1. I work at home so most of the time I’m connected to my WiFi network. Yes, I do use my LTE connection but only as a backup whenever my DSL connection fails.

Fact #2. I connect my iPhone to Smart’s LTE network whenever I go out to cover events, which happens between 2-4 times a week. I use my iPhone as a personal hotspot so I can write and upload my blog post. Of course I surf the net while I work on my blog post.

Fact #3. When I go out to eat out or watch a movie, I only access my social media apps and YouTube. Nothing more.

These 3 facts just prove that I am unable to really maximize my unlimited data plan. Whenever I upload a blog post, it doesn’t consume too much data. Besides, I also compress my photos for them to easily show up.

These facts don’t make me a heavy user, and a lot of casual users actually have the same kind of usage, they just feel a lot safer having an Unlimited Data Plan so that they will not go overboard on their bills.

This is where the Smart BRO Turbo Plans, Smart BRO’s latest offering enters the picture. Old Unlimited LTE Data Plans with voice calls are priced at least Php 1,500 a month with Smart’s Unli-Data Plan 1500. With Smart BRO Turbo Plus Plan 799, subscribers are allotted with 1.5GB of Data (for video streaming and torrent downloads) and unlimited access to apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, E-mail apps, Chat apps, Web Browsing, etc. It also comes with 75 Tri-Net (Smart, Sun, Talk ‘N Text) SMS and 30-min. of Tri-Net calls. That’s almost half the price of the old plan with unlimited access to social media accounts, able to do simple web browsing and occasional file downloads. Turbo Plus Plan 799 will definitely work for a casual data subscriber.

If you’re not a heavy social media app user, you can opt for the Turbo Max Plan which prioritises users who need to download files. Instead of accessing social media apps, chat, email and light web browsing, you’ll get 3GB worth for Turbo Max Plan 799 which also comes with 75 Tri-Net SMS and 30 minutes of Tri-Net calls.

Here’s the list of plans with free 75 Tri-Net SMS and 30 mins of Tri-Net voice calls

TURBO PLUS PLANS
Plan 799:    1.5GB + All Month Surf
Plan 999:   3.5GB + All Month Surf
Plan 1299:    5GB + All Month Surf
Plan 2500: 15GB + All Month Surf

TURBO MAX PLANS
Plan 799:      3GB
Plan 999:      5GB
Plan 1299:    7GB
Plan 2500: 18GB

You can also check the infographic found above to give you an idea about the usage for each plan. If I were to choose, I think I’ll be fine with Turbo Plus Plan 999 because 3.5GB is enough for me to consume my LTE data allocation for those times I would need to use it for uploading or downloading files.
