MWC Meets Cherry Mobile ACE: The Cheapest Smartphone in the World

Here’s another proud first for the premiere Filipino mobile phone brand! Mozilla Firefox officially welcomed its new Firefox OS partners at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, including the Cherry Mobile ACE, which is touted as the cheapest smartphone in the world.

Firefox has long been an advocate of affordable internet by “keeping the power of the Web in people’s hands”. To forward this mission, they have partnered with Cherry Mobile to manufacture the very first Firefox OS phone in the Philippines, which only costs Php1,499.

The Cherry Mobile ACE has basic specs which Firefox has made better with an OS that can run on minimum power both battery-wise and RAM-wise. This dual-SIM phone has a 1.0GHz single-core processor with 128MB of RAM and a 256MB internal storage that’s expandable to 16GB — all backed up by a 1,100mAh battery. It’s stripped-down and simple, making it perfect for those who wish to experience the Web on a tight budget.

“Just months ago, Cherry Mobile introduced the ACE, the first Firefox OS smartphone in the Philippines, which is also the most affordable smartphone in the world,” said Cherry Mobile CEO Maynard Ngu. “We are excited that the ACE, which keeps gaining positive feedback in the market, is helping lots of consumers move from feature phones to smartphones. Through the close partnership with Mozilla Firefox OS, we will continue to bring more affordable quality mobile devices to consumers.”
