Cherry Mobile didn’t just release super affordable Windows Phones, they also went further by coming up with Windows 8.1 tablets! No wonder Intel was also a partner of the largest local mobile phone brand – they’re the processor of choice to power up the Cherry Mobile Alpha Play and Alpha Morph. These news made me very excited!
CHERRY MOBILE ALPHA PLAY
I think the Cherry Mobile Alpha Play would make Android tablets shake on their knees. Here’s why. The Alpha Play sports an 8-inch screen that seems to be quite durable especially its back cover which is made of steel (I’ll have to check with the peeps of Cherry Mobile about this.) The Alpha Play may look like any Android tablet, except that it’s on Windows 8.1, an operating system widely used in the education and business sectors. It comes with a 1-year subscription of Office 365 so users can use the familiar MS Office applications for their tasks. And, users can install their favorite Windows applications on the tablet too! They can even connect it to their USB keyboard, USB Mouse or printers to print documents. Not all Android tablets can do that.
The caveat: only 16GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM. Personally, I am not comfortable with this storage, but hey, it’s only worth Php 7,999.00 so I am not supposed to expect too much, right? I played with the Alpha Play and it looks responsive like any other Windows 8.1 tablets I’ve used this year, but I would really love to test this out in real world usage.

I had to take several deep breaths before holding this one. The Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph is kinda similar to the Microsoft Surface. The latter is known for easily attaching (or detaching) the tablet from the keyboard, and the Alpha Morph does that as well. Typing on the keyboard seems to be okay, but I’d rather test it out first to really know if it’s good or not.
With all the connectivity options available on the Alpha Morph like USB OTG and HDMI, I may purchase this as soon as it becomes available. 10-inch screen is still better than a smaller screen for blogging and other work that I do and with 8,000 mAh as the battery capacity, I’m sure it will last for at least 8 hours.
The Asus Transformer T100 is actually good enough, but I want a lighter tablet. The Alpha Morph fits the bill.
